Destroying Democracy to Retain the Presidency

The Trump Campaign is employing three approaches to prevent Joe Biden’s ascendancy to President of the United States. The Trump Campaign takes the approach that the election is illegitimate as a result of the popular vote in sovereign states and by the state electoral college.

Approach # 1 is to challenge all aberrations at the local level and imply there is a conspiracy to steal the election at the state level. IF there is sufficient doubt about the integrity of the election process, the Trump Campaign seeks to have state legislators choose electors to vote for the federal election.

Approach #2 is to challenge any/all changes in the election rules that were implemented due to COVID or to the use of large mail-in voting. This is to restrict the number of ballots to be counted and is considered to be voter suppression.

Approach #3 is to use unprecedented challenges at the federal level to throw the election to the Supreme Court. The fewer the people to influence, the greater the opportunity to win one’s argument.

It is dishonorable to destroy the integrity of the American election process to keep Donald Trump as President.

I predict we will see multiple Republican states take measures to vote by legislature when the election integrity is challenged. I also suspect that the federal government will challenge the Constitution and try to assert control over federal elections instead of allowing the states to control the election.

There are two more months for the Trump Campaign to invoke measures that break the backbone of American Democracy. If they are successful, be prepared for oligarchs to rule America and your only value as a human being is to support the oligarchs.

Be Like Trump

  1. Have almost 1/2 the country vote for you
  2. Claim the other 1/2 of the country DID NOT vote for your opponent but instead claim the vote is fraudulent and you actually won the election.
  3. Use your campaign team to flood the battleground states with lawsuits hoping one of them will land with a sympathetic judge who will rule in your favor.
  4. Consult with the Republican leadership in battleground states and remind them of the laws in their respective states about certifying their elections.
  5. Inform the Republican state leadership of what they should do within their state if they think the certification is false in some way. Perhaps they need a second election. Or perhaps they can select the electors with their majorities in their legislature and send the Electoral Certification of the Vote and Certificate of Ascertainment to the Archivist and the President of the Senate by voting within the legislature.
  6. Continue your efforts to win even if it means thwarting the votes of the American people. After all, almost half of them voted for you and they will not complain about what you did.
  7. Continue to use your personal attorney to distract the news media while your team plans other approaches to continue your reign.
  8. Recognize that there are six ways to have this end up in the Supreme Court for a decision that favors you. Make one of them happen.
  9. Never Surrender. Never Give-Up. You are Trump and you are Supreme.

What did we learn?

The voting part of the election is over, the counting continues, the lawsuits have begun.

Imagine the hubris of losing by 4 million votes and then sue-ing specific states over a few thousand votes in order to keep your job as President of the United States. And when you get the job, you only want to be a President who takes care of working or wealthy Republicans and no other type of American.

The President accuses nameless and faceless conspiratorial elements of cheating him and stealing from him. “They” are stealing the election.

I don’t know who “They” are but the President won states with Democrat governors and Democrat legislatures and he has lost states with Republican governors and Republican legislatures. One would think that the evil “They” would be a bit more successful or consistent.

So the President thinks he only needs to find a few thousand votes out of 150 million to change the election in his favor. Either Republican votes are saved from being illegitimate or Democrat votes will be cast into illegitimacy. Once he defeats the evil “They”, he will be welcomed as the true and rightful President of the United States.

Then he can wield his power as he sees fit instead of being constrained by the laws of the land.

He adores laws that prevent others from attacking him. He thinks the judicial system is corrupt when it opens him up to attack. You can wade through this list of lawsuits if you have the time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_lawsuits_involving_Donald_Trump

Soon the Fat Lady will sing and the opera known as Don “Trump” Quixote, Man of La Mancha NYC will be over.

President “Wimpy”

Yay! President Trump waited until 30 days before election day to announce…wait for it…..a PROMISE!
Now I don’t know President Trump personally but it appears he “will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.” So vote for him!
After what seems like a year of Black America insecurity, the President promises to do something next time in the White House. We should be grateful he took notice of the issue at all.

Oh, wait! President Trump isn’t going to do anything about police violence. Oh, no. He’s promising something that “the Black Community” hasn’t even asked for.

sigh…

Well, I guess maybe item 2 on the list is meant to address police brutality in some weird way. Is everyone feeling safer now that Item 2 has already been done?

If you are Native American or a poor white person who lost your job, how do you feel about all this attention?

As for giving only Black Churches access to federal money, I have no words.

Portland: Protests vs Riots

I watched about an hour’s worth of Portland videos before writing this only to learn that my thoughts two months ago are still valid today.

a) The daytime protests are in line with non-violent protests I have seen for the past 50 years. Regular people wearing regular clothes singing, carrying signs, shouting their cause through megaphones and at the top of their voices. These are the ones who care passionately about reducing police brutality and preventing the death and injury of people being arrested for a crime.

b) Towards dusk and later, the crowds wear black, they don helmets, they hurl objects, and they attack bystanders as well as police and property. If I were to stereotype the Antifa, the violent people, the destroyers of social order, I would say that if they wear gas masks, wear black, shout their hatred towards the police, and taunt the police, these are the ones I would target for arrest as a police officer assigned to maintain social order.

I read with disgust the statements of Mayor Ted Wheeler, Multnomah County Chair Deborah Kafoury, and the Oregon Governor Kate Brown related to the death of a Trump supporter. They blamed the death of a Trump supporter on …the presence of Trump supporters… who the officials say were there to incite violence.

The Trump supporter was shot dead by someone in a red car. This is not intimidation, it is not Trump-oriented violence. It is an occupant of a red car who shot the man as he was walking in the street. The video is on the internet if you look for it.

When I read and hear what the officials of Portland and state government say, I am reminded of the expressions “Well that’s what she gets for dressing like this” and “well, what did you expect being there at that time of night”.

If any one needs to be “woke”, it’s the Mayor, the County Chair, and the governor. The violence does not stop until they make it stop. It is their job to provide for the safety of everyone. They have failed to do that. They are illegitimate as a government.

Trump may not do anything now, but if this is still happening on November 4th after the election, I expect the US Military to be on the streets of Portland to quell the violence. And I expect they will remain until January 20th if Trump is not elected to a second term… and longer if he is.

It is UnReasonable to permit civil unrest for social injustice to exist this long. The Governor, the Mayor, and the County have had four months to craft a new police policy as a way to stop the riots and they have not done a thing. Shame on their leadership. Shame on them.

The Prez sniggers at America

While everyone wrings their hands and says the sky is falling, the Prez is having a scornful laugh at America.

The Prez isn’t trying to gerrymander the mail-in ballot process. He’s paying back a political donor for his campaign donations.

It’s classic Trump.

a) Destroy what’s working that he cannot control. (The USPS is independent of the President’s cabinet.)

b) Re-structure the deal to favor his political donors.

This Prez loves to divert government money to his political donors. He’s really good at it. Someone should tell Congress to follow the money for a RICOH violation.

Louid DeJoy:

“DeJoy’s appointment was controversial because of his political bias[17][18], as well as because of his financial position. While he divested some investments before taking on his role (shares in UPS and Amazon), he did not divest his $30-$75 million equity stake in XPO, a subcontractor for USPS. Additionally, when he sold his Amazon shares, he purchased stock options in the company that represent between 20-100% of his prior holdings.[19][20]. Finally, DeJoy is the first postmaster in two decades without prior experience in the United States Postal Service.[21]

Upon assuming office as Postmaster General, DeJoy began taking measures, such as banning overtime and extra trips to deliver mail, to reduce costs. Critics said these measures would result in slowing of the mail service.[22][23][24] Congressional Democrats called for the measures to be rolled back.[25] More than 600 high-speed mail sorting machines were dismantled and removed from postal facilities without explanation,[26] raising concerns that mailed ballots for the November 3 election might not reach election offices on time.[27] Mail collection boxes were removed from the streets in many cities; after photos of boxes being removed were spread on social media, a postal service spokesman said they were being moved to higher traffic areas but that the removals would stop until after the election.[28]

On August 7, 2020, DeJoy announced he had reassigned or displaced 23 senior USPS officials, including the two top executives overseeing day-to-day operations.[29][25] DeJoy said he was trying to breathe new life into a “broken business model.”[30] Rep. Gerald E. Connolly, who chairs the House committee that oversees the post office, said the reorganization was “deliberate sabotage”.[25]

In a letter to postal workers on August 13, 2020, DeJoy confirmed reports of delays in mail delivery, and called the delays “unintended consequences” of changes that eventually would improve service.[31] At the same time that DeJoy was taking measures that postal workers and union officials said were slowing down mail delivery, President Trump told a TV interviewer that he was blocking funds for the postal service in order to hinder mail-in voting.[32]

How many times do we have to tell people that government is not a business and it is not supposed to have a business model? Apparently not enough. Government is a service bought and paid for with taxes. It does not now have and never will have a profit component to it.

In fact, the struggle will always be to ensure that government is effective first and efficient second.

Sometimes I think Peter Drucker’s book “Managing the Non-Profit Organization” should be required reading in every Executive Branch of every city, state, and federal government.

Oh, I know political appointees are more interested in milking the government’s teats than in serving the public’s needs and interests. I’m not naive. And yet, I hope that, if shown the way, some portion of political appointees will do the right thing if they only knew what the right thing was.

So Louis DeJoy will now divert government money to his logistics company in order to “assist” in the mailing of ballots. Money that pays back the Louis DeJoys donations and earns him more money to donate in the future to the Republican Party.

The best democracy money can buy. Embrace it.

Trump the Destroyer

“A scorpion, which cannot swim, asks a frog to carry it across a river on the frog’s back. The frog hesitates, afraid of being stung by the scorpion, but the scorpion argues that if it did that, they would both drown. The frog considers this argument sensible and agrees to transport the scorpion. Midway across the river, the scorpion stings the frog anyway, dooming them both. The dying frog asks the scorpion why it stung despite knowing the consequence, to which the scorpion replies: “I couldn’t help it. It’s in my nature.”[

If there is something that works well and serves the American people and its government, President Trump will find it and break it.

President Trump the Destroyer.

It’s in President Trump’s nature. He breaks what he cannot control.

President Trump’s Rushmore Speech

If you haven’t read it, you should. It’s a great speech and except for one swipe at Democrat mayors, it reflects the American character of exceptionalism.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/remarks-president-trump-south-dakotas-2020-mount-rushmore-fireworks-celebration-keystone-south-dakota/

I am thankful I did not see him deliver the speech. It would have ruined it for me. I would have focused on his hubris and his poor character as a human being. He will never measure up to the presidential legacies of those who were carved into the rock behind him. But he did have this one great speech.

After President Trump’s praise of our Founding Fathers, he went on to say:

“Our nation is witnessing a merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values, and indoctrinate our children.

Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our Founders, deface our most sacred memorials, and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities. Many of these people have no idea why they are doing this, but some know exactly what they are doing. They think the American people are weak and soft and submissive. But no, the American people are strong and proud, and they will not allow our country, and all of its values, history, and culture, to be taken from them.

The President goes on to say:

“One of their political weapons is “Cancel Culture” — driving people from their jobs, shaming dissenters, and demanding total submission from anyone who disagrees.  This is the very definition of totalitarianism, and it is completely alien to our culture and our values, and it has absolutely no place in the United States of America.  (Applause.)  This attack on our liberty, our magnificent liberty, must be stopped, and it will be stopped very quickly.  We will expose this dangerous movement, protect our nation’s children, end this radical assault, and preserve our beloved American way of life.  (Applause.)

In our schools, our newsrooms, even our corporate boardrooms, there is a new far-left fascism that demands absolute allegiance.  If you do not speak its language, perform its rituals, recite its mantras, and follow its commandments, then you will be censored, banished, blacklisted, persecuted, and punished.  It’s not going to happen to us.  (Applause.)

There is a lot of truth in these statements… And a bit of irony that the President fires everyone perceived as disloyal to him while embracing the concept of tolerance for opposing viewpoints.

“Against every law of society and nature, our children are taught in school to hate their own country, and to believe that the men and women who built it were not heroes, but that were villains.  The radical view of American history is a web of lies — all perspective is removed, every virtue is obscured, every motive is twisted, every fact is distorted, and every flaw is magnified until the history is purged and the record is disfigured beyond all recognition.”

The President goes on to remind everyone about our national heroes.

In all of the bad things we can say about this President, there is this one good speech about America; there is the calling out of a new fascism that seeks to tear the American Dream into shreds and replace it with an American Nightmare. An American Nightmare to scare the innocent, frighten the ignorant, and horrify the rational and reasonable citizens of America.

We are not now and never have been anything but exceptional.

Our country has abandoned its racist past and its misogynist culture.

It has defeated Nazis, Communists, and a variety of totalitarian dictators.

While the embers of these firestorms still glow, the fires have been extinguished. We must continue to be vigilant so they do not re-kindle into a conflagration once again.

While my disdain for President Trump remains high, he will be replaced one day and America will move forward once again to remove the yoke of misery off the shoulders of its citizens and off the world.

It is our legacy and our future as a nation.

Believe in America’s history, believe in its future.

Make my day, Mr. President

Please do, Mr. President. Please send federal troops into Seattle with congressional Republican support. Our state governments need a reminder that the Federal government has too much power and should be trimmed back.

You state governors and state citizens could use a lesson that your federal representatives are too independent of your state’s authority.
