Student Loan Forgiveness Yikes or not?

“Biden argues that the government shouldn’t forgive debt for people who went to “Harvard and Yale and Penn” — and he’s also indicated that he believes Congress should make changes through legislation, which would make them harder to undo.”

Well, President Biden and I agree on that point.

In my view if you are smart enough to go to college then you are smart enough to pay your debts. Even if you dropped out.

Biden wants a limitation of $10,000 and the uber-liberals like Sanders, Warren, and Schumer want to make it $50,000! Yikes! What is wrong with them? This sucking up to the college vote, well, it just sucks!

I wish this buying of American votes would go away but it is not likely to happen.

And in any event, isn’t this loan forgiveness simply a way to replace the money that banks loaned out and are now at risk of default?

The latest student loan debt statistics for 2020 show how serious the student loan debt crisis has become for borrowers across all demographics and age groups. There are 45 million borrowers who collectively owe nearly $1.6 trillion in student loan debt in the U.S. Student loan debt is now the second highest consumer debt category – behind only mortgage debt – and higher than both credit cards and auto loans. The average student loan debt for members of the Class of 2018 is $29,200, a 2% increase from the prior year, according to the Institute for College Access and Success.

That’s a lot of moolah coolah.

Send a note to all your congressman to stop college loan forgiveness.

Trump Acquitted Again

Everyone predicted that former President Trump would be acquitted for the second time and he was. On a vote of 57 for impeachment and 43 against impeachment, the 2/3 majority was unmet so the President was acquitted.

The case from the House was excellent and demonstrated the truth of things: Donald Trump ginned up his base before the election and after the election. It was shown that former President Trump invited the Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, QAnon, and a huge portion of simple MAGA supporters to “Stop The Steal” on January 6th. They also showed that former President Trump gave the cue for the disruption of the Electoral College ballot count and that the MAGA supporters created the chaos at the Capitol while the fringe extremists invaded the Capitol in search of Democrats, RINOs, and the VP of the United States of America to harm them. And that the President took no measures for two hours to halt the violence. He was too enthralled at what he had wrought.

Mitch McConnell , current Minority Leader of the Senate, agreed that the House managers proved the facts of their case.

“Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said that there was no question that former President Donald Trump was “practically and morally responsible” for provoking the January 6 US Capitol insurrection despite the Senate voting to acquit Trump for inciting the riot.”

However, as in all political battles, it’s all about giving people an excuse not to do the right thing. In this case, many of the Republicans believed that one cannot hold a trial for an impeached President who is no longer in office. This is, of course, an excuse not to do the right thing. Many Republicans used that excuse to vote against impeachment. We don’t know how many. We don’t even know if that is the excuse McConnell told himself.

And yet, the queue is now set for former President Trump to go to the Supreme Court and argue that articles of impeachment should be stricken from his record. He will say that he was found not guilty and there should not have been a trial at all.

No matter how you slice and dice this though, the video and audio evidence of President Trump’s malfeasance is on record for the world to see.

So too, is the evidence that the Republican leadership will go to extraordinary lengths to support Donald Trump. As I’ve said before, the Republican Party is no longer the Conservative Party of Gerald Ford or of George Bush I and II.

It is now a red meat party that attacks and lies and distorts the truth. Welcome to the Republican Party- New and Improved.

Participatory Democracy

Well, you are about to see the conclusion of six weeks of effort to impeach a President.

What did you do to participate in YOUR democracy? If you did nothing, then it’s not your democracy, is it?

If you read the memes and watched the news, you did the same thing that every person in the world did. You became an informed and silent citizen whose opinion was never counted…whose voice was never heard.

This is a participatory democracy. You get what you put into it. If you put nothing in, then you get whatever comes out from other people’s participation.

Perhaps you will remember four years from now that the Democrats exaggerate everything and the Republicans do nothing. Doesn’t matter whether its a pandemic or a budget or voter ID or whatever. If you don’t participate, you get the dregs of every democracy in the world: the worst candidates, the worst policies for people, the worst outcomes, and the worst legislatures, judges, and executives.

Every policy and every law and every outcome is because someone with a voice speaks for it or against it. When your voice is not heard, nobody cares about you. Why should they if you don’t speak up in a participatory democracy?

You can write your Congressman, you can send letters to the editor. You can inform others. You can comment on this blog. You can go to Washington. You can march in the street. Heck, you can even storm the Capitol.

I hope you choose to participate in the future. If you want a world for your children, and your grandchildren, that keeps them safe and allows them to succeed, you need to do something about it.

Participate. With Respect. With Honor. With American principles in mind.

Lend your voice. Be gracious when you lose. Be grateful when you win. This is the best American most of us can ever be.

oooh, my personal conspiracy theory!

After reading hundreds of conspiracy theories over the years, I finally have one of my own! Yaaaaay!

So let me begin by saying this is totally made-up except for the missing Washington Times article. That part is true, or was true when I wrote my post.

Are you ready? Ok, here goes:

I wrote before about the three-hour December 28th (?) meeting in the White House with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and unnamed Republicans in which plans were made for the coming vote and rally on January 6th. I told you that the article that appeared in the Washington Weekly edition, mysteriously, cannot be found in the e-versions available on line.

https://reasonablecitizen.wordpress.com/2021/02/03/wh-plan-to-overthrow-election-foiled-by-trump-supporters/

So now this mysterious disappearance from The Washington Times has got me thinking there was more to the covert plan.

Here’s my conspiracy theory for your amusement or amazement, which ever, what ever.

The President summoned some key Republican zealots into the WH to ostensibly talk about challenging the Electoral College count by VP Pence. Once they started talking, it was clear the President wanted to talk about the rally being held on January 5th for MAGA supporters. He asked who the speakers were and made some suggestions about using Rudy Giuliani and Alex Jones to fire up the crowd.

Then the conversation turned to speculation and it isn’t clear who made the suggestion but it became a kind of joke if the Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, and/or the Boogaloo Bois might capture a Democrat or two and shame them on national TV. The President liked the idea and his minions began to spread the story among the followers that the President supported the idea of putting Pelosi or Schumer in handcuffs and show his base what should happen to all Democrats.

And it became obvious that if the Capitol Police were thinned out and there was a sufficient amount of delay, that a small cadre of Trumpian patriots might be able to make this happen.

And so the plan was hatched to motivate MAGA followers to storm the Capitol so a handful of patriots could hide among the crowd and then shame a few Democrats or a couple of RINOs on national TV.

That’s my personal conspiracy theory. Don’t steal it. There is nothing factual about it except for the missing Washington Times e-article written by Dave Boyer.

I have often said that you can’t make this stuff up… now I’ve learned that you actually can make this stuff up.

(sarcasm alert) But those darn Democrats have exploded the whole thing into some nefarious insurrection and then people were actually killed and, well, what was once a lark has now become something darker and more sinister.

I’m thinking I should turn this into one of those alternate Universe/portal stories where an alernate history happened. Might be good for a TV movie …or maybe a series!

Sigh…well..,making things up is fun but reality is better. I’m going back to watching the trial now. Oh, my! Who’s the idiot lawyer talking about Due Process when the impeachment hearing isn’t a criminal trial? What a maroon! Doesn’t he know that when Sen. Mitch McConnell says there will be no witness testimony that Due Process is broken into a thousand pieces?

You can’t make this stuff up! Lawyers are such idiots.

“It’s all about the Base…”

Here are my early take-a-ways on impeachment proceedings:

I watched a little of the trial at lunch and the Republicans are following the same strategies they always do:

1) Can we show that Democrats are hypocrites? Say one thing and do another? If so, then people in glass houses should not throw stones and no one should listen to the Democrats.

2) Can we show that Democrats do the same as us? Then our Republican Strategy is “What about-ism?”  “Why didn’t Democrats do this to their people? If they didn’t, then this is just political theater.”

3) “We will just deny, deny, deny that Republicans did this and that Democrats cheated and made this up.”

Those are the three approaches the Republicans use and they are very good at it.  It gins up their base and undermines any argument that Democrats believe in equality for Republicans.

The Democrats’ strategy is:

1) The Appalled Offense: make it sound worse than it really was and express a sense of how appalled everyone is.

2) Craft a long litany of Republican behaviors to show this has been going on a long time and nobody held Republicans accountable until now.

3) Craft a story of approaching doom if nothing is done to curb the Republican problem in front of everyone’s nose.

The Dems are just as good by getting their base to shake their heads and cluck their tongue about Republican behavior that will never, ever be held accountable.

Did you see anything that I missed?

Robert Kennedy and today

“Some men see things as they are and ask, “”Why?”” I dream things that never were and ask, “”Why not?””

Some days I wake up and ask myself “Why don’t Republicans imagine a better world for people on earth?”

They appear to imagine a world that is better for them but not better for everyone. Is this true or am I missing something?

Would the Kennedy brothers be labled Socialists if they were leading the Democrat Party today? Somebody hated the Kennedys enough to kill them. What about President Johnson? Would his support of black lives in the ’60s through integration, equal opportunity, and government support programs be considered anti-Trump or anti-Republican if it occurred today?

Aren’t you curious why the marches today are the same as the ones in the 60s? Police violence, Police brutality.

Today’s marches are to end police violence and police brutality. Do you see that the root cause of these marches is a history of police violence in neighborhoods or do you see the violence as being necessary in crime- and drug-infested neighborhoods?

Do you see that the lack of government involvement in treating the neighborhood infestation through public health measures is an issue or do you see that people just need better morals, make better choices, and the crime and drug infestations will decrease as a result?

Do you blame the infected patient for his fever, vomiting, and sickness or should you treat the cause and make a sick person healthier? Would you do the same for sections of a city or should you simply contain the infection within its boundaries?

If the Kennedys and LBJ were alive today would they be considered LEFTISTS and SOCIALISTS by the Republican Party?

Does the Republcian Party see things as they could be and say WHY NOT? Or do they see it the same way as it was in the 60s?

And how are Black neighborhoods different than Chinese, Muslim, Hispanic, Hmong, and other ethnic neighborhoods?

So many questions and so few answers.

Kamala Harris is not black

or Black….

No matter how many times the news media calls her America’s first black VP (or Black VP) candidate, Sen. Kamala Harris is not black and definitely not African-American.

She is mixed race. She considers herself American but if that isn’t good enough for you then Jamaican-American is a good way of describing her.

While the American Media still wishes to portray black people as somehow victims after 150 years of freedom and 50 years of Affirmative Action and Non-Discrimination Clauses, Sen. Harris isn’t a victim of American Slavery. She is not now and never has been an American Negro. She was born in SFO and was fortunate enough to have been gifted with good genes from a Jamaican father and an East Indian mother. For those who don’t know, Jamaica is a friendly island in the Caribbean.

She has a powerful intellect and has challenged many professional politicians (and their sycophants) along the way. She is a good choice. She brings hope that good people still exist in American government.

She has some hurdles to overcome but she is capable, experienced, and a formidable debater. I hope she makes it.

Life Through Black-Colored Glasses

It has become an industry to look at life through black-colored glasses.

The raw materials are black-vs-white incidents, black-vs-white disparities, black-vs-white voting blocks, black-vs-white law enforcement, and black-vs-white outcomes.

The products of this industry are race divisiveness, white-race guilt, and black-race victimization.

The profits are banked by industry manufacturers. Their accounts grow every year: more money, more political power, more adherents to their cause, and more stature as a legitimate cause, competing with other reasonable causes.

In the history of the world, no nation has ever expended so much money, so much time, passed so many laws and spent so much effort to improve the lives of a single race of people as has the United States of America. God Bless America and the people’s thirst for justice that has produced such an effort. America should be admired. Native Americans, Native Alaskans, and Native Hawaiians never received this level of political and economic support from the US government as much as the black race in America.

It’s an industry that keeps America looking through black-colored glasses and they will tell you there is more to be done.

The NAACP has spent 100 plus years advancing the cause of the black race in America. They have achieved incredible results.

The passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964 linked the Democrat Party to liberalism and the causes opposing discrimination for the past 50 years.

Which leads to the question: “If, after all this time, effort, and expense, why hasn’t the hue and cry about racism been destroyed in America?” Indeed, the political, economic, and educational systems that embraced and fostered racism have been destroyed.

The answer is likely because the black-colored-glasses industry finds new racial products to manufacture and promote. And like many other kinds of products in the market place, it is the same product with new advertising and a new “look”.

I don’t foresee the industry going away any time soon. There is a new generation of Americans to be bound to its cause through the promotion of what is called “disparities”. It is not enough to have equal opportunity; there must now be equal outcomes between blacks and whites.

At some point in time, the industry that spawns divisiveness, white-race guilt, and black-race victimization will run out of buyers for its products. Like buggy whips, 8-track cartridges, pay telephones, and shag carpeting, this industry will fall by the wayside.

I hope that time comes soon. I’m sick of it now.

One image, many interpretations

The President sees the looting and mob actions.

The Media see the abuse of the innocent by the Authorities.

The Democrats see the outcome of rich versus poor politics.

The Republicans see the outcome of poor choices made by individuals.

The Communists see an opportunity to de-stabilize Americans from their government.

The Fascists see an opportunity to demonstrate the Force of Law.

The Antifa see an opportunity to rebel against Authority.

Law Enforcement sees civil disobedience.

The emotionally sensitive see the pain of others.

The emotionally insensitive see the weakness of others.

And what about you? What do you see?

Can anyone vote Republican anymore?

There’s a title I never thought I’d write. And yet the rot and decay in Republican Party values has created an overwhelming stench.

Evidence demands a verdict. Consider the evidence:

a) A President who blames all his troubles on someone else. A President who demeans 49% of all Americans. A President who is actively wrenching Republicanism away from its core values of decency, respect, the rule of law and God, and replacing those values with buffoonery, humiliation, and maniacal tweets.

b) A Majority Leader in the Senate who perverted the impeachment process and emboldened and enabled a cover-up of criminal and unethical Executive Branch actions.

c) A federal Republican party that will not display nor support the humble and decent values of Ronald Reagan and countless other Republican presidents.  A congressional Republican Party that seeks to break the US Treasury during times of crisis.

d) A Republican Party that no longer believes in a Republic and instead seeks Presidential immunity from prosecution and immunity from congressional oversight,  a party who seeks a King to revere,  and a party who asserts that all accusations against the President are a crime.

How can and why should anyone vote for the rot in the Republican Party?

And how can anyone vote for the Democrat Party either? Socialistic, bleed-the-bank programs, corrupting the ethics of self-reliance, independent thinking, and the advancement of the greater good in all men, the Democratic Party has failed to engage its collective brain and has failed its mission to rear decent Americans.

If you believe in the decency of the common man, for goodness sake, vote for someone other than a Republican or a Democrat. If you want to save America, vote independently and vote for a different set of legislators.
